Giants group of Sangli established "Sangli
Giants Charitable Trust" for education of deaf and dumb children in
Sangli. The members of this trust are managing the school without
any political barriers and are providing best organization and
quality education. This resulted in popularization of school and
students strength rose from 8 to 40. The efforts were on for
getting recognition for the school and government aid. In 1996
government approval and aid were granted.
It all began with an idea put forward by Mr. Dilip Nerlikar, one of
our Giants Group members. All the members of Giants Group Of Sangli
lent their support to the idea. Under the leadership of Late Dr.
Appasaheb Chopade, the school was inaugurated on 18th
July 1991 at Late Babarao Sawarkar Pratisthan, Gaon Bhag, Sangli.
Later on with the kind help of Sangli nagarpalika, the school
shifted to more spacious building located at Mane Chowk on 100 feet road in Sangli city.
From the very beginning, the school is fortunate enough to be headed
by board of trustees who are totally not aligned with any
political group. The working of the school is transparent and the
school is proud to have a clean and consistent record for academic
as well as administrative excellence.
The school is also fortunate enough to get the teachers, who believe
in selfless service for the disabled. Mrs. Anjali Chirputkar, joined
us on day one of the school and ever since has been an example of
how a teacher for disabled should be. Rest of the teachers too are
following her footsteps.
The school has all the state-of-art equipment for the difficult task
of teaching to the deaf and dumb students. The school has set up a
speech therapy unit at the school and has also recently introduced
employment oriented subjects so that the students can earn on their
own at least to some extent.
At present there are 54 students, 5 special ready teachers and 2
office staff. For extra students additional teachers and speech
therapist have been appointed. The school is now shifted from
Babarao Sawarkar Memorial to Sangli Miraj and Kupwad Corporation on
100 feet road in Mane Chowk. This was possible due to leadership and
efforts from Honorable legislator Shri. Madanbhau Patil, Shri.
Rambhau Ghodake, Shri. Abhay Shirguppe and President Shri. Kishor
Shah.
As per the special norms there are 8 students and one teacher
for every class. Education is given by two methods
1) Sign language.
2) Lip language.
The lip language is given more emphasis as it is the language
all people use and if the students have to mix with society. They
should learn to understand the speech from lip movements.
School teachers also pay attention to overall progress of
students. Hence the students of the school take part in various
state or district level competitions in arts, sports or culture and
win prizes.
The school functions under Social Welfare Dept. of Sangli Jilha
Parishad. The social welfare officer Shri. Deepak Ghate (Class-I)
and Shri. Ashok Pawar help the school and provide guidance for the
development.
Giants Group of Sangli is a charitable institute, the main
parental organization of this school. All presidents and the members
and members of Giants Saheli back the efforts of the school
development. Some of the notable members helping the school are as
